Commemorative Dutch Ovens

We are so fortunate to have met so many wonderful friends through dutch oven gatherings. One good friend, Dave, found out about this special Camp Chef 12″ dutch oven and skillet with the outline of the state of Texas and made arrangements to purchase 50 at wholesale price so that we could sell it as a fund raiser for the 2012 National Dutch Oven Gathering. When we sent it out to all of our dutch oven groups online, we had an amazing response. So many dutch oven chefs want one of these for their collection – even folks outside of Texas!

They will be delivered at the beginning of October, one year ahead of the NDOG. What a great way to start the count down to the event!

Cook Offs!

Saturday, July 9th, in addition to great demonstrations and workshops, there were four cook offs – Youth, Dessert, Chicken, and Phylo Dough. These cook offs were for fun (and bragging rights!) and not as competitive as Friday’s 3-Pot cookoff. There were 8 entries in the youth, 22 in the chicken, and 28 in the dessert cookoff. The judges (below) had their work cut out for them!

Here are all of the young Dutch Oven chefs at the Judges table.

Our good friend from Texas, Dave “Beeman,” prepared a delicious Spicy Thai Curry Chicken and fluffy rice that was mouthwatering delicious! And he won second prize in the chicken cookoff!

The most suprising and exciting was when they announced that we had won the chicken cookoff with our Hatch Green Chili Chicken Enchilada! Wow! What a thrill!!!
